What can be the cause for my dogs brittle nails?

She is a six year old dachshund and her nails are as thin as a dime.It is thin where the quick should be but it all looks dead in the middle of her nail. She has broken a nail on every foot and she bleeds like crazy. She limps all the time and I have no clue what it can be. We took her to the vet and he said to give her omega 3 supplement and its been 4 months and so far nothing. She breaks her nails almost every other week. When she breaks/chips it, its on the inside between her paws so I can barely see it. I have no idea what it can be and the vet has no suggestions except to give her omega-3 supplements! What can be the cause for my dogs brittle nails?
Take her to a groomer %26amp; have them to cut her nails. She may need a little oil in her food. What can be the cause for my dogs brittle nails?
what if she's pregnantttt =0
Has he ruled out a fungal condition? Or some metabolic problem? What kind of dog food do you feed her? Perhaps one higher in protein if it's cool with the vet. I wonder if you could massage some vegetable oil into her pads %26amp; nails to moisturize on the outside %26amp; if she licks them she'll injest a little which might even help it. Our vet had us give our old dog Safflower oil when he had dry itchy %26amp; flaky skin/fur with brittle nails. It helped him a lot. The massage will help the circulation. Check with the vet though. Another suggestion is that pet stores %26amp; online pet supply sites sell little booties just for dogs, should help protect her tender paws %26amp; make her more comfortable. Good luck.
