Weak, brittle nails??

My nails are starting to grow out and they look really pretty, but they keep breaking on the edges then eventually all the way off (the tips, not the whole nail, lol). They break off when I'm doing everyday things, like dressing my 2 yr old daughter or even pulling my pants when getting dressed! Any home remedies to make them stronger?? Also any product recommendations are appreciated, but I would really LOVE to know home remedies (if there are any)... Thanks! =)Weak, brittle nails??
It sounds like your nails could be really dry and weak. You need to give yourself what is called a ';Hot Oil manicure'; to put moisture back into your nails . Any hand lotion will work; I like ';Jerkins Hand Lotion'; or ';Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion'; the best.

'; A hot oil manicure is a specific type of manicure that cleans the cuticles and softens them with oil. It works well for dry skin and nails that are brittle as it improves both by leaving them soft and pliable. Types of oils that can be used are mineral oil, olive oil or commercial preparation in an electric heater.';

You will need to do this at least once a week, then after about a month, continue every two weeks.

Start

1. Wash both of your hands and dry well.

2. Heat about a 1/4 cup of the hand lotion in a small bowl,

in the microwave for about 15 seconds.. Not boiling, but as hot as you can stand it, without burning.

3. Dip your fingertips in it, covering the nails. Leave your fingertips immersed until it gets almost cold. (You can do both of your hands at the same time or one hand at a time.

4. Massage the fingertips, cuticles, fingers and hands well.

5. You can wipe the excessive hand cream off with a towel.

(or you can wash them, again).

This will really help them. Good Luck!

Also, Eat Jello, too. Or eat foods with Vitiman E in it. It has jellitan in it and that will help your nails get stronger too .They also have the vitiman E tablets you can buy at Wall Mart.

Later you can use Sally Hanson Hard As Nails, but I would wait about a month first.

Also, this was probably caused by excessive dish washing. You might also buy some Rubbermaid gloves to use anytime your hands are going to be in soapy water for any long amount of time!

There is more information here if you want to read it and give yourself a real manicure!

Also, Never use your nails to scratch off anything, like on the counter or a pan or something like that. Use something that's meant for that.

if you have really weak nails vitamin c will help. vitamin c is great for your body. its gives you nice skin, hair and nails. you can buy some tablets at a pharmacy and take one or two tablets a day. never take too much though , cause you will get a really bad head ache!
i know that there are a lot of things to make nails stronger that you put on just like nail polish. my friend used to paint her nails all the time, and it messed them up, and now they're perfect from something that's like that.
I've had the exact same problem, tried all the different strengthening nail polishes, didnt work. I don't know about the pills but would be a little wary.

The only thing that stops my nails from breaking is to get acrylic nails.
Rub raw garlic on them daily. There are also pills you can take to strengthen your nails by Sally Hansen you can find at your local grocery store or drug store. I get gel nails so I don't have to worry about it.
The best thing I know of are pre natal supplements. I think you can get some pretty good OTC's at the local drug store. My nails were great when I was taking them, and I wasn't pregnant.
You should take a women's daily vitamen. I also here prenatal vitamens are good for your hair and nails, even when you aren't prenant.
ok my sister has the same problem just get the nail polish brand ';hard as nails'; and they will get stornger it worked for my sister
Eat more jello. Take a vitamin E capsule every now and then. And I would rub your nails in at night with some kind of hand cream. Take special care to REALLY rub it into your nails.
There are many nail hardeners available from any chemist, Manicare is a good brand
I like silica, u can find at health food store. It is good for weak nails and good for hair and skin too, takes 3-6 months for results but worth it! hope this helps u
i have the same thing... try clear nail polish and eat some more calcium!!! Hope this helps :)
