I've had that problem before....
I used a form of nail polish that acted as a strengther, but there is also a product called ';Elon'; ( www.dermstore.com ), if you are looking for a solution to the problem.Brittle Nails?
Nail Problems ?

if you eat jello 2 times a wk. you nails will become thicker
there is also sally Hanson
sounds like you have a nutrient deficiency lady!
Either that or you have a hormonal problem.
Is your hair thin and brittle as well?
I would start supplementing and get some natural hormone
replacement.
A well balanced diet is your best bet. Failing that a good multi vitamin
if it's brittle because of nail polishes and stuff, leave it alone for a month or two.
if it's just naturally brittle, put on nail strengtheners from drugstores. they're basically clear nail polish
In terms of a treatment, a product called ';Nailtiques'; is considered one of the top ';salon-quality'; products and Sally Hansen would be the best drug-store product. Stimulate nail growth by filing gently (do not file back and forth - only file in one direction at a time) and also by using a buffer if there is no polish on the nail.
Apply one of the above producte every other day and remove completely after 6 days (3 applications). and start over. Use a NON-ACETONE nail polish remover as this is less drying than a regular polish remover. The non-acetone is available in the same place regular removers are sold.
Finally, I also recommend eating gelaten, which strenghtens hair and nails. These days it comes in convenient containers already prepared!!
Silica, I hear, works wonders...a mineral you can purchase from your local health food store.
