Brittle nails?

My dog has brittle nails. When I go to cut them, they tend to split and it makes me nervous because I don't want them to hurt him if a piece splits too high up his nail. Is there a way to make his nails stronger and less brittle? Either a supplement to make them stronger or a topical cream or oil that will help them?Brittle nails?
My friend's dog has a similar condition - her nails keep breaking off and bleeding. She was diagnosed with a sort of autoimmune disease - kind of like lupus. You should probably get it checked out by your vet, just to be on the safe side. On the other hand, it might just be down to the kind of clippers you're using. You could ask a groomer for recommendations.Brittle nails?
is it actually the nail that's splitting? A lot of dogs and cats grow a sort of casing over their nails that cracks off when you cut the nail. If its this there will be another nail underneath. Sorry, cant help you out w/ a suppliment, if it were a horse then i could..lol..good luck
