Help for weak, brittle finger nails?

My wife's fingers nails are very weak and soft and brittle. She believes it is due to her mother not being able to drink milk while pregnant with her.

She has tried getting a manicure, but when they come off, they take her real nails and it hurts a lot.

Is there something that she can use to help them bending over the tips of her fingers?Help for weak, brittle finger nails?
she needs calcium and iron.

btw...there is nothing can be done to totally repair the deficiency of the minerals in ur body. only thing can be done is to keep the deficiency from getting worse .

its nothing to be scared of.

she can keep her nails short enough. I mean everyone's nail is strong upto a certain length. keep it as short as possible... she should be fine. Even she can do manicure if she has short nails.Help for weak, brittle finger nails?
She should have her thyroid checked. Not by just a primary care specialist, but I believe every woman should see an endocrinologist (as they would and OB/GYN) and know exactly what their thyroid levels are because it is very common for women to have many health challenges that can be related to a thyroid (or other hormone) imbalance. If nothing is wrong, at least she will have a baseline of where her thyroid levels are. Also, know that there isnt a single test for thyroid, there are many different levels they can check (TSH, T3, T4, etc), and many primary care docs truly dont know what to check. In fact, many Primary Care docs will treat the symptoms and not look for the root cause which is how thyroid disease is often overlooked.

My wife had brittle nails and that was just one of many seemingly unrelated symptoms that ended up with her being diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency (which also affects hormone production).

The link below from About.com has lots of good info, resources, and checklists, so she can see if she has of the other related symptoms.
Most women experience damage to their nails after having fake nails put on them. I have very strong nails and my nails are destroyed after having acrylics put on.

Vitamin E is good for healthy skin hair and nails. Also you can but clear nail polish that helps to strengthen nails from Drug store. I believe Sally Hansen has a strengthening nail polish or two.
Eat jello
Could be a deficiency of calcium, zinc and Vitamin E.
