actually, eating jello is good for your nails.
vitamin b12.deficiency of this vitamin cause nails to become brittle which eventually cracka nd break.
It could be a lot of different things. I would recommend taking a multi vitamin. Also drink 8 glasses of water each day. If you do not eat a lot of protein this could also lead to brittle nails.

Avoid harsh cleaning agents by using gloves. Moisturize them often.
zinc and maybe iron
A lack of vitamin A and calcium causes dryness and brittleness. Insufficient intake of the B vitamins, particularly, vitamin B12 causes fragility and excessive dryness.

For healthy nails, be sure to get plenty of quality protein. Eat whole grains, legumes, oatmeal, nuts and seeds. Eggs are also a good source of protein, as long as your blood cholesterol levels are not too high.

Consume citrus fruits, salt and vinegar in moderation. Excessive intake of these foods can lead to a protein/ calcium imbalance that may adversely affect the health of nails.
brittle nails could be there was a change in diets. Or if someone with thyroid it can make them brittle/split in half...you can dip them in oil(pecan or any nut oils) Rubbing a clove of garlic can help getting them thick. Might need to change vitamins
