I became a Vegetarian since the new year. I only just noticed my nails are brittle and weak.?

All my life they were strong and didn't break. What can I do to make them strong again?I became a Vegetarian since the new year. I only just noticed my nails are brittle and weak.?
You may not be getting sufficent zinc, calcium, iron or protein from your diet or all of the above. Veg sources of zinc include nuts, seeds and whole grains, calcium - fortified products such as soy milk and tofu, almonds, iron- organic spinach, nuts, seeds, veggie sausages, tofu, blackstrap molasses and protein - soy, nuts, seeds, wholegrains. To check if you are low on zinc get a zinc tally test from a health food store and follow the instructions. If zinc is the problem you may have white spots on your nails, have impaired taste, poor immunity or have skin changes. If you're low on calcium you may also have white nail spots and be experiencing muscle cramps and sleep problems. Examine your diet and see if you're getting enough calcium. If you are low on iron you may have low energy, poor immunity, lowered resistance to stress, pale skin and mucosa (skin on inside of mouth and eyelids). Do not take iron supplements without a bloodtest as excess iron is dangerous. If you are low on protein you may have poor energy, sugar cravings and poor immunity. Check your diet and see if you are getting enough protein. Supplements of any of the above mentioned nutrients may be helpful but do not take them long term as you may end up with toxicity (especially with iron) or cause deficiency in other minerals as some of them compete for absorption in your intestines. Do some research on vegetarian diets and see a nutritionist for advice if you haven't already. A vegetarian diet can give most people all they need if done well but most people (meat eaters included) do not eat well.

Other nutrients deficiencies that may be an issue for you are vitamin A, C, E, B vitamins and selenium but impossible to tell without a lot more information. Please see a nutritionist.I became a Vegetarian since the new year. I only just noticed my nails are brittle and weak.?
I think vegetarianism is a clean honorable, and healthy way of life if one can stick with it.

Much of India are life long vegetarians with no harm to their health.

They DO include dairy products in their diet.

I think you should,too.

Low-fat yogurt,low-fat cottage cheese or mozzarella, some low-fat milk in your diet will be an excellent source of protein and calcium and will benefit your skin and nails.
Because you are not eating meat you are losing out on alot of vitimans, over time this will affect not only your nails but your hair , skin and general health aswell.

what you need to do is take a general multivitiman that will provide you with all the nutrients meat does, but without harming animals. Iron, vitiman B, A and Protein are essential. Protein can be found in eggs and bread.
it's because of a lack of vitamins in your diet. i did it and ended up will a list of medical problems a mile long. try taking supplements to top your vitamins up. you need it. there are nail varnishes, like Nail Eat by QVC, and they actually strengthen your nails. check in pharmacies, they'll probably stock them. a medium priced one should do the trick. it's a clear coat too, so it just looks like normal nail varnish. :) hope that helps
You can be a flexitarian that seldom eats meat.Or you can go to a physician to examine it and check what is the problem.
you need more iron in your diet, i am vegitarian too, and used to have the same thing, go down to your local chemist and grab some iron tablet things.
stop being a vegetarian humans were not meant to be herbivores just follow the food chain
because red meat contains iron which we need. i suggest you eat spinach or take vitamins each contain iron
