My fingernails are soft and brittle.. I increase my calcium intake and I dont see any improvement.
Any tips to share?Brittle nails?
HI! Yikes, I know how you feel... My nail tech just used a new product on me and it is great! For the first time my nails are harder than ever. It is called Nail Teq II and there are 2 formulas she used. There are 2 bottles, one is FOUNDATION II and Intensive Therapy II and it has made them grow out like crazy. It is more costly than the Sally Hansen products... more along the lines of OPI. Check EBay and you can find it. I just bought my own so I can keep it layered on there so they won't chip or peel. Taking prenatal vitamins also will help, but this for me has been the best. Good luck! Hope this helps...Brittle nails?

A warm olive oil rub followed by glove wearing shall work wonders
You can try to apply Miho Virginal Oil daily on the fingernails. This Viriginal Oil helps to improve drynes on the skin and its just the right texture - not too oily. Can also be used to apply from head to toe.
i hear rubbing it with garlic makes the nails stronger. leave it on the nails for a period of time before you rinse your hands.
You can buy nail polish that is usually clear and strengthens your nails. You can also get tablets that you chew to help weak nails. I think the brand is Schuessler Tissue Salts or something like that. Both of these things can work well. Hope this helped!
take prenatal vitamins.
the increased vitamins (more than what you are gettin now) will make your nails and hair strong and shiny
you should take Iron pills! thats the only way to make your nails stronger
you may just have a genetically given trait...or you could be suffering from an endocrine disorder such as hypothyroidism and anything else dealing with hormones. go to the doctor and check it out. little signs like this often point to something else...its not anything to be worried about, however.
from my experience, i've used this buffer/shine thing, and it reall seems to help my nails grow both in strength and length. ..sall hansen ';hard as nails'; will help.
good luck!!! =-)

My nails have become so brittle?
My whole life my fingernails have been fine and i have even been able to wear them long with little problem with them breaking. NOW all of a sudden my nails have become brittle and i get cracks in them (to far down to cut so i have to wait till they grow out and they get snagged on everything (hair, clothing, etc...)). Also when i cut them (i use nail clippers not scissors), they seem really brittle and more or less shatter rather than make a nice edge....i'm getting really worried cause i know that dietary deficentcies can cause nail problems but i dont know what to do to fix it! I HAVE been sick for about 2 years now and not eating very well. I might go to the dr about it, but i thought i'd see if there were recommendations here first. Anyone know what kind of supplements might help brittle nails? Thanks! My nails have become so brittle?
Go to your doctor and get a thyroid test done.My nails have become so brittle?
Take biotin, it's over the counter in the vitamin and supplements department of your drug store. It will take a month or 2 for you to see the difference but it really works.
Vets give this to horses to stop their hooves from cracking but of course in much higher doses.
organic herbs
Drink more milk.
simple. gelatin (yes, found in jello)
Dry and brittle nails are associated with iron and zinc deficiency. White spots over your nails may also be due to zinc deficiency. Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron from plant foods, hence its intake is also necessary. Diet containing foods rich in vitamin C and zinc are equally important in treating fungal infections as well, as both of them improve your immunity level immensely. Optimum quantity of selenium (i.e. foods rich in selenium but not too much of it as it can blacken your nails) are required to avoid formation of ridges or wide bands on the nails. Probiotics 鈥?good bacteria, will help your body to get rid of the fungus and help maintain gastrointestinal and immune health. Omega-3 fatty acids are very effective anti-inflammatories and do a good job if your infection has created soreness around the nails.
Herbal and homeopathic remedies can be a gentle alternative to effectively make brittle nails strong and treat nail fungal infections. Melaleuca laterifolia, also known as Tea Tree Oil has excellent anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and healing properties. The essential oil of sweet-smelling Lavendula officinalis (Lavender) may also be used as it contains active ingredients to soothe the nail, while promoting healthy nail growth.
Other herbs such as Cymbopogon citrates (Lemon Grass) are especially helpful for fungal infections while Syzygium aromaticum (Clove Oil)is considered an excellent antifungal and antibiotic essential oil. These natural ingredients may be used directly on the affected area to target the fungal infection on the spot. There are also herbs which can be taken internally for their anti-fungal and immune boosting properties. These include Pau d鈥橝rco and Calendula officinalis.

I hava fake nails, and of course my real nails are growing, but how come they seem to be brittle underneath?..
I thought the acrylic helped by keeping my nails healthier and strong. What can I do about it? I go every 2 weeks to get fill ins and clean my nails and all that....I hava fake nails, and of course my real nails are growing, but how come they seem to be brittle underneath?..
Who told you that fake nails would be good for your real nails? The manicurist? Hmmmmmmm.........
As a matter of fact, acrylics are not good for your real nails because they do not let your nails ';breathe.'; And when you get them taken off, layers of your real nail will end up coming off with it too because they have to scrape off the residue and your own nail will be injured in that process.
You can get your own nails healthy with good nutrition and and a good quality multivitamin. If you have some problem, like ridges or spooning, then that indicates some deficiency that needs to be addressed!
If you still insist on an artificial nail, try a silk wrap. It lets more air in to your nailbed.I hava fake nails, and of course my real nails are growing, but how come they seem to be brittle underneath?..
I didn't find anything on the internet explaining why your nails might be brittle, but I did find this information which you should definitely be aware of.
http://www.beautyweb.com/consumer_alert_鈥?/a>
they're brittle because they're not ';breathing';. Believe me when you have acrylics you need to take a break from them every few weeks to let them get stronger
Have them put on a nail hardner. I really think your nails are weak from the constant glueing an unglueing of the fake nails.
Your nails are brittle due to the chemicals you put on them. Nail polish, nail polish remover, glue, etc. This stuff spreads to your nail matrix. Your diet might also play a role.
It's funny to me that women commonly call men liars, but then they:
- fake their nail length
- cover themselves with makeup
- wear high heels to fake being taller
- wear push up bras to fake having bigger breats
- wear girdles and ';control panties'; to fake being lighter or more shapely
Amazing.
If this is the best answer, please rate it as the best answer. Thanks!
fake nails suck they make the real nails weak. take them off and let ur real nails breathe. then put some nail polish on it and believe me they will grow.
your nails cannot breathe its a like everything it needs time off--as in no false nails. water can go under and fungas grows
ask them to put a nail strengthener base on your nails next time you have a fill in
I know lots of ladies that have that same problem. seems those chemicals on nails does major damage.... at least that is what it seems to me.

definitely worth the money
gemma, xxxI stopped biting my nails bout 5 weeks ago and they aint grown, there really brittle. how can i get them long?
it'll take a while before your nails will start growing long again provided you don't ';bite'; into temptation ;-)
apply a top coat or varnish to help them grow strong.
also massage with good hand %26amp; nail lotion or moisturiser or oil at least twice a day.
And include lots of clacium-rich foods in your diet such as milk, cashewnuts, etc. along with fresh green leafy vegetables.
all the best ...

I had the same problem. It takes about a mounth and a hlaf to get them healthy but you can start by filing them daily....dont clip. And dip them in olive oil 1 time a day! It is a slow process.... but it workes. Also... try getting a lotion for strong hands and nails! I have it and it really works!
Ok. Once a week, before you go to bed, rub some vinegar on them. It should help a lot. If you want white teeth, brush with vinegar too!
well, theyll need a chance to heal, they will stop being brittle, but u need to keep not bitin themcomputer security

My nails keep breaking?! so soft and brittle?! help please?
i can actually bend them, i would love to have long nails but i cant because they keep breaking.
i have to wear false nails all the time,
any products you can use on your nails?
or any foods that will make them stronger and harder? My nails keep breaking?! so soft and brittle?! help please?
Use gloves when washing dishes or using harsh chemicals. This will keep the nail bed from getting too wet and causing the nail to become weak. If you are not able to use gloves, minimize the amount of time the nails are wet and dry them immediately after they have been exposed to water for long periods of time.
Massage vitamin E oil into the cuticles every night before going to bed. This oil will absorb directly into the skin and the cuticle bed. Over time, the oil will make fingernails stronger.
Apply a thin coat of clear nail hardener over fingernails at least twice a day to help make the fingernails stronger. Do this for seven days consecutively, then remove the hardener and reapply a thin coat again, starting with day number one.
Implement the use of the nail biting medicine Thum to discourage the behavior. You can find this medicine in a local pharmacy or online. Reviews have shown that this medicine has proved to be successful in helping people to stop nail biting and chewing.
Drink milk or take calcium tablets daily to help the body in making the nails stronger. Even a multivitamin with a significant dose of calcium is beneficial in the effort to make fingernails stronger. My nails keep breaking?! so soft and brittle?! help please?
it means that you are not getting enough fat in your diet. so make sure you are eating meats and protein.
and dont wear false nails! that is also the reason why your nails are soft and brittle. the glue on the false nails is ripping them. and when you wear nail polish all the time, this makes your nails soft and brittle. so take the false nails off and let your nails heal for a couple of months.
the sally hansen thing works but you have to apply it every other day, which i got annoyed with so i googled a few ways a few years ago (had the same problem ;) just rub in some conditioner onto your nails, try drinking more milk, or even to tapping your nails helps them grow faster or you could pick up a supplement idk the vitamin name but theres a certain vitamin you can buy and it helps your nails grow really fast and your hair too

But Then I Started Drinking And Eating Things That Had More Calcium In Them, Even Though I Dont Like Milk Much, I Tried To Have A Milkshake Everyday Or Two Days, I Also Started To Put On Rimmel's Clear 60 Second Nail Polish Everyday. I have acyrlic nails on...what can i put on my real nails to keep them from being brittle and breaking?
While you are wearing acrylic nails, there is nothing you can do to help them from being brittle. Just make sure when you are ready to remove the nails, soak them in pure acetone for about 15 to 20 minutes, between time every 5 to 6 minutes rub off the dissolve acrylic.
By carefully soaking them off, helps your nails to maintain it's natural nail bed surface level.....

I think you can buy a type of clear nail polish that has vitamins and stuff in it for your nails to strengthen them. Mine's Sally Hansen.
